Description

A couple weeks ago, the second day of the big snow, my friend Martin gave me a ride so I didn't have to drive around in the white stuff. (The road you see was obviously clear ... it's one of the major thoroughfares in this area.) We came up over the crest of a hill, and this is what I saw. I got one shot, hand-held, zoom, in a moving vehicle through a fairly dirty window. Imagine my surprise when I got home and found THIS!! What you need to know about this area, and about our mountains, is that they move around a lot. I swear. Some days they're really close, and some days they're really far away. I'm sure it has something to do with the amount of moisture in the atmosphere or something. In any event, they don't usually look like they're looming over us like this! The mountains are generally a LOT farther away. :) .......... We're still working on my photo processing software issues, and I've got Photoshop 7 installed. That should tide me over until the CS3 problem is resolved! Whoo-hoo!

I am humbled by the grandeur of nature as exemplified in this magnificent composition, Tara. Incidentally, although destructive in essence, earthquakes are the prime creator and mover of hills and mountains.

A wonderful capture from a moving car. Those mountains do look close and beautiful. Down here we always say it is a sign of rain when they look close.

That's an amazing capture with a stunning view! You know, speaking about those moving mountains, sometimes I get the same feeling, but not about some certain mountains, but hills... it happens when I go to some places where I wasn't in a long time and soon I realize that some hills are higher than they used to be...

(oh, mountains move, I've seen it! I don't think it's the atmosphere, I think they actually get up & stretch when no one's looking!) I love the burst of light of the mountains, contrasted with the deep greens of your fore & midground. A beautiful capture of a vast opening in a landscape...I'm in the windy city, I'd love to see this out my window one day...
