Description
I had made the reservations for this trip to Oberammergau in September, including the car. I wanted a small car with manual transmission for good gas mileage. When I arrived at Munich airport they gave me a triple upgrade- a Mercedes. I don't care much for Mercedes, especially when on the road in Europe. It had high-speed tires, no snow tires. When I asked them how the roads were, the answer was 'All major highways are clear'.
True enough, but the moment I pulled into Oberammergau I got stuck. So on the 28th December we took the Mercedes to Munich and exchanged it for an Opel, front-wheel drive with snow tires. That afternoon I talked my cousin into going to Neuschwanstein with me and this picture was taken between Oberammergau and Neuschwanstein. But when we got there it snowed and the castle was barely visible, not enough to take a picture, but the trip gave me a chance to re-familiarize myself with driving in these conditions.

Great work. It sounds so very nice in September. LOL Stay around a few days and you'll see the glorious sunshine and blue skies, because it's that way in the high country.

A picture post card image...didn't mind driving in the snow in Germany..but then again we were in an APC with tracks...

Wonderful scene! Great tale as well. Come to the UK and drive in Winter! Slight sprinkle of wet on the roads and a multi car pile up. Wet leaves on rail lines. Trains don't run! SNOW! Gritter don't work!! Welcome to Winter in the UK... Rob. Got to Germany instead. You had the right idea!!
