Description

Backyard birds need our helping hands. Helping out nature instead of taking from her… Winter is the season when supplemental feeding may contribute the most to songbird health and survival. During this season, the abundance of berries, fruits, and especially insects, (which represent the bulk of most songbirds' diets during the warmer months), has dwindled to the point where resident species must shift their diets to seeds and fruits to survive. Individual birds may indeed live or die depending on whether we stay alert to their changing needs during foul weather episodes. In general, the smaller the bird, the greater the challenge it faces in coping with winter's long nights, cold temperatures, and diminished food supply. But any bird will benefit from a dependable source of daily nutrition and from some built-up fat reserves that provide it with an internal, emergency energy source. Super shot! All my feeders have to be squirrel-proof. This net would last less than 5 minutes! I love the confident pose!

This is a beautiful capture of a delightful Blue Tit getting a helping hand. Don't worry I feed the birds this way, and I haven't had any problems with squirrels here, thank goodness. Your intro is very interesting and yes it is good to help the vulnerable creatures, when the weather turns bad. Happy New Year hugs Jane xx

Beautiful little bird. You are so right about the value of placing food outside during the winter months...been saying that to myself since October. Now, I'll stop thinking about it and do it! Great job. Bill

J'adore ces photos de passereaux et je sais combien il est difficile de capturer le portrait de ces oiseaux qui ne tiennent pas en place ! Belle réussite.
