Description

I love it when I hear these guys around the yard. I've found a nest but have yet to get the shot I want there. Depending on the way the sun hits them their heads may appear any shade from orange to red with the female having a gray patch on their head. Thank y'all for lookin' and I hope you all have been having a wonderful holiday season! I guess I'll be starting the new year off right... working :) firesnuffer

Great shot, but is their belly red too? Or is their stomach in their head? I'm confused.... ;p I have these in my yard too, but as with all birds, they're way too quick for me to capture!

Great photo. I see downy and/or hairy woodpeckers in my garden (or it could be a yellow bellied sapsucker, according to my book I use to identify them with) I've just ordered a new digital camera with better zoom capabilities, so I hope to be able to get some photos soon.
