Description

This is another outdoor statue from a favorite park of mine in the middle of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Again, I've used a gaussian blur background to reduce some of the distractions behind the statue. This is a bust of General Roscoe Robinson Jr., the U.S. Army's first African-American four-star general. If you recall the bust of Lieutenant Flipper that I posted a couple of days ago, General Robinson was the direct beneficiary of the ground broken by Henry O. Flipper. He has a very, very interesting background. If you are interested click on either of the following links: Arlington Cemetery or Wikipedia Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to any and all of your comments. Bill

Bluring the unnecessary background parts is often a clever choice. I like the light you captured and rendered within the statue, which is an interesting subject to show. Cool.

Happy New Year Bill. This and your previous "Flipper" are outstanding.Truly men of their time.Given the obsticles put before them by their own side, the goals they set and acheived are all the more inspiring. How different would Military history be, if they had simply said "OK you don't want me, I'll go home".? Thanks Bill, great tributes to 2 fine soldiers, and valuable history as well. Must add the busts themselves are remarkable work. You have done them great justice, and your choice of minimal background brings them out superbly.

Very nice work, Bill. The patinas on this piece are superb, and the background works well to set them off. Then your backgrounder gives it much more meaning.

Wonderful shot of an Outstanding Soldier. I had the pleasure, no, Honor of meeting him on one of my stopovers on Okinawa. I believe he was a three star then. Thought to myself , For an "ARMY" Officer he's OK. An Officer and a Gentleman - the world is a better place because of Gen. Roscoe Robinson. Did you ever notice that he had the same air about him as Gen Clark? Firm, Fair, good natured, but when he said jump, you waited until you were in the air to ask, How High. ;-)

Great portrait of a great man. How difficult it was for men of color to get ahead in the old days. He shows what a determined man can do.
