"Xerxes get us out of here!"
Unlike some AI who might have argued safety regs with me until it was too late, Xerxes has a keen very feline sense of self-preservation. The Wanderlust disengaged from the freight while I was still in the, thankfully sealed, docking bubble. Banking sharply, Xerxes set the Wanderlust moving like a bat out of hell.
All the same I was still in the not completely retracted docking bubble when the explosion came. The flare of light nearly blinded me before the polarizing filters cut in.
"That was a little too close for comfort," I muttered, struggling for balance and blinking away the afterimages.
