I had to laugh when I read Jeff's comment just now on my Mother Goose and goslings upload of last night. He said the goslings should be safe as he sees no crocs in the pond. Well Jeff - this croc is for you - shot on the same day!!! Don't worry though - he is not in the same pond as the babies!!! LOL... This guy was just lying there with his mouth wide open. I am not sure why crocs do that as this is not the first time I see them do that. I saw a croc in the Kruger Park doing the same thing. Maybe it is a way to cool down...

Could be a cooling thing?..nature has strange ways, last summer although it was very poor by standards, we had a couple good days, and after the rain my dog Jazz sat in a puddle for like ten minutes LOL...Great shot Carin, bet you are getting excited with the Namibia trip now? :)

Great shot. I think he is smiling for the camera. For those who are concerned for your safety, neither his eyes nor the posture of his head are in the attack mode. That can change rather quickly if he is in a grumpy mood, ;-)

reptiles can not perspire so the use of their tongue helps cool them, at least that what I have always heard.outstanding capture
