Description

Billabong is an Australian English word meaning a small lake, specifically an oxbow lake, a stagnant pool of water attached to a waterway.[1] Billabongs are usually formed when the path of a creek or river changes, leaving the former branch with a dead end. Despite some claims of a Scottish Gaelic origin,[2] the word is most likely from the Wiradjuri term bilabaŋ.[3][4] Billabongs appear relatively often in Australian literature. One of the most prominent references is in the opening line of Banjo Paterson's famous folk song "Waltzing Matilda". Umm..Jeff there are no leopards down under, after all that Christmas celebrating YOU may think you see a leopard, but believe me, they aren't there :o), however, this is an absolutely wonderful and beautiful scene. Excellent work.

Ok, I won't ask about the leopard. :^) This is Awesome. The reflections Rock! Informative, too. I knew that a Billabong was a pond, but I didn't know it was often connected to a waterway or a leftover of a flow change. Interesting!
