Here again you brilliantly transcend a photographic commonplace--bicycle, fence, shadow--with the added subtilty of tracks in snow (foreground), grate (at a diagonal), footprints in snow in the rear. In addition to that there is the untold canniness of the diagonal in the snow leading to the bicycle (Americans, still suffering from Victoria, call this naively a "girl's bicycle") and the echo of the bicycle wheels in the grate, and its diagonal as well. All that, and the silent partner of Fra Sol. Masterful work, brilliantly done--a classic of logic and uncluttered complexity.
