Description

I Dedicate this image to junge1 (aka sig) and I wanted him to see this image before his vacation.Sig is always looking Forward to see my work most especially the picture of my country,He Has lots of good memories when he was in the Philippines..I hope you like this pic sig, enjoy your vacation and take lots of pictures... The Nipa hut is considered as the national house of the Philippines. It is, as the name implies, a hut, raised a few feet above the ground and constructed out of bamboo tied together, with a thatched roof using dried grass. Nipa huts were once the original houses of the Philippines before the Spanish arrived and is still used as a domicile today. , especially in rural areas. The advantage of this sort of architecture is that it provides basic shelter from the most available and inexpensive of materials, and works well as protection against the average wind or rainfall, aside from providing good ventilation. However, the downside to these houses is that they are not stable enought to withstand the gale-force winds during the typhoons that ravage the country every year. The nipa hut is considered as a cozy and pleasurable place to relax and is widely used up to the present. One reason why most of the foreigners who stay here in the Philippines prefer nipa huts as their rooms because they are not expensive and are easy to maintain. These huts are iconic symbols of what a house is in the country, the countryside, and as a part of the most recoognized symbol of the concept of bayanihan. The usage of the nipa hut as a device to refer to bayanihan stems from the fact that moving the hut on two large poles requires a lot of people, includung the neighbors, thus demonstrating the spirit of bayanihan. Hope u guys like this pic..Thank you all and Hugs everyone.. minda

Beautiful Minda and thank you for the dedication to me. We stayed in a similar looking hut in San Fernando, Lingayen Golf. At day time besides swimming in the crystal clear water we watched a farmer using a monkey on a rope and have him climb up the coconut palms trees and pick the nuts. At night we watched the fishermen fish about 1/2 offshore along the reef. Each fisherman had his own light. For a daytrip we went to Baguio up in the mountains to John Hays base I think it was called. Did you know that Baguio held the world record for a long time for the record amount of rainfall in a 24-hr. period? 48-inches!!!! Thanks for the interesting narrative too Minda! I am looking forward to more pictures from your country, Sig...

Interesting info. The house is quite attractive. This one looks a little more modern with windows and what seem to be foundations for the poles. I like all the wonderful colours here and rather unique plant life in the scene. Thanks for posting this one, very lovely.

Sigh .. another lovely post for the middle of very cold January here. Warms me up just sitting here looking at it! It's so lovely, and I could imagine living in one, as long as there wasn't the threat of typhoons or monsoons! I love the feeling of unity and togetherness these little traditional houses imply.
