Contesting kingship -- short version
Many, many moons ago!
Before the animal kingdom had a ruler.
The animals decided that only one should
be crowned as the king of all the jungles.
Many of the animals thought they had what it took
to fill such a position.
But when the lion appeared and demanded that he should be the crowned king.
Most of the opposition backed down without
any protest.
For the lion was a fierce and very strong
opponent and his claws and jaws struck fear
into most other animals.
However the animals requested that the lion state his case and motivate his claim to the crown of kingship.
To this the lion responded.
I am stronger than most other animals,
I can run faster than most other animals,
I can jump further than most other animals,
And I can roar louder than any other.
To this the wise old owl remarked,
You may be stronger than the cheetah, but you cannot out run it.
You can maybe jump further than a hippo, but you cannot out swim it.
And there is one that roars so loud that even your loudest roar cannot compare to.
This is the mighty waterfall.
The lion immediately boasts that he’s roar had never been beaten.
And he will gladly proof that his roar is the mightiest of all.
So all the animals agreed that if the lion can roar louder than the
waterfall, that he will be regarded as the one and only king of all the jungles.
The lion immediately ran down to the bottom of the waterfall and as soon as when the other animals joined him there, he let of a very loud and most fearsome roar.
The animals however heard nothing else except for the constantly roar of the waterfall.
The lion got furious and roared again and much more ferocious than before.
Still the animals could not hear him.
Again he tried and again he failed to beat the mighty waterfall.
By now the lion became frustrated but would not accept defeat.
He became so overtaken by anger and frustration that he started running and climbing up the side of the mountain, in a roaring frenzy.
Still no one could hear him.
He became more angry and yet more frustrated.
And kept on going up the mountain roaring all the way until he reached the top,
As he makes his way to the face of the waterfall he suddenly collapses from sheer exhaustion.
There he kept laying for awhile unable to roar or even growl.
The animals have send the eagle to watch over the lion and to make sure that he does not cheat in any manner.
Once the lion has regained his breath,
he slowly walked up to the waterfall and
in an last attempt to claim leadership over the animals... He let out his loudest and most meanest of roars yet.
Although none of the animals at the bottom
could hear this, the eagle whom was still keeping an close eye on the proceedings,
heard the roar loud and clear.
He flew back down and told all the animals
that the lion have beaten the waterfall.
So they all rushed up to be witness to
this extraordinary event. Once they have all gathered on top, the lion proudly demonstrated his power and motivation to claim the crown as the king of the wild.
The rest of the animals agreed that the lion should be crowned as king, but they also requested
That he must return to the waterfall at every dusk to proof that he still deserves to be the
one and only king.
And so he does!
Ps.(off cause non of the animals realized that the roar of the waterfall is much softer
on top than what it is at the bottom.)lol
The moral of the story here is:
Through determination even the lazy lion,
can achieve greatness!
