that is a wonderful capture of this pileated woodpecker--they are very skittish...we had them around our house while i was growing up, and i gotta tell you, when they started hammering on something, it sounded like a jackhammer pounding on those poor trees ;) sometimes they even tried to do a number on our cedar shingled house ;D

lol...hope the tree will be still standing when you get your shot...smile...and you already got a fine one of this very elusive birds... I did not, althought they come to my fathers balcony, but as soon as you even move the curtain they are gone...

He's a beauty! Don't you wish you could tell him that you only want his picture and it won't hurt? Good luck in your pursuit!

Nice looking red crest. Our woodpeckers, down here are not that colorful, only have a few red feathers on top. Looks like he has been working all over that tree. Dana P

Wow.... I can't even get a shot of the shy and elusive downy woodpecker, and here you have gotten a Pileated Woodpecker!! I'd love just to see one of these, much less get a shot of one!! Excellent incentive to keep trying for the shot you want. :-)
