Description

Hello All OK these captures are not really gallery worthy for me but more of wanting to share our experience here... For those of you that live up in the frozen tundra this might not be such a big deal but for me and my 11 year old Christina who has NEVER even been in snow let alone sub zero temps it was an amazing thing and to see her hair and eye lashes frozen white from just 20 minutes of sledding outside wow!!!. There was this ice fog rolling around turning everything in its path white!! the trees looked like they had been sprayed with powder ! It got down to -25 in some places there OMG!!!! so just to share these two shots of my little icy girl after her FIRST time sledding . I took a few macros of her here one is after 10 minutes ( the top) and then you can see her beanie hat has gone from black as night to almost white-grey as she is covered in ice. Her hair went stiff white LOL cracked me up . I was shaking without my gloves on here so it was hard to hold the camera still. This was around 3-4 pm and already growing dark out! WE HAVE NEVER been in such frigid temps I was out there with the kids in my thin pants and California gloves and felt so CHILLED to the bone at one point. My sister brought me a hot latte right after i captured this here and it was the best warm drink i ever had and my salvation at that point. (HAHA one night when it was 18 below zero out I was curious just to see just how much I could take, so went out in stood on my sister's balcony in my thin nightgown and slippers to look at the stars . I almost didn't make it back in !!! I seriously got lightheaded and almost passed out OMG!!!!) This was taken at her cousins school where they build these big snow banks for the kids to sled on at recess . What a different world it was there in Alaska to me!!!( This morning ,back in So CAL I walked outside with my coffee and sat in my glider - the sun was beaming down (75 degrees) its rays seemed to be kissing me like a warm hug - just took it all in and appreciated the warmth that I normally take for granted! ) Chrissy absolutely LOVED the snow and never complained once about being cold! My little trooper! (She says hello to you all btw loves the site here~!) Thanks for all your time and comments ! *still trying to get caught up have the flu and then there this new spunky puppy needing lots of attention here so its going slowly.* Love to all , (((BIG HUGS ))) Kimmers ♥ ! :O)

Kimarie this is a great picture of little Chrissy in her first experience (along with you too) of such frigid temps. I loved reading about your experiences and do hope you share more of those photos you mentioned too. Just remember next time to dress a bit warmer as that wind can cut right through you ;)

Oh wow - what shots! -25 ... now that's just not right.:o)I remember LJ telling me when he was a professional diver and dove under the ice in antartica - he said his eyelashes and mustache froze. I've never been that cold but up here in the mtns it can get to 10 below. As you said - a lot different from Calif. It looks like it was an amazing experience for both of you. Thanks for sharing. CC

you definitely got the powdered look of that snow all over hats & scarves & everything else; kind of like Nature's own "grain" filters (hey, maybe nature owns a special edition of Photoshop...) I love the frost-covered fur on her coat (top shot), and the frost-covered furrows on her hat (bottom): simple stuff but luminous & painters could make paintings out of that...And her eyes shine through (esp. in the bottom where you not only get the shine, but caught frost on her eyelids too). Two simple close-ups, but lots of detail, and it's a shimmering snapshot of winter & happiness. Btw, Chicago—my home—was minus 40 two mornings ago. Global warming took off a few days...Another loving picture of the people you love. You brought the cold into your family...
