Description

Several times a year, I make the drive from Phoenix AZ to Los Angeles CA. The drive takes me out of the big city, through the endless suburbia to the beautiful AZ desert. After several Hours the endless suburbia reasserts itself and the next 5 hours are spent driving through city after city with no breaks in between until I reach LA. Each time I do the drive the desert gets smaller and smaller, and the cities become larger. One day I'm sure they will meet forming a truly massive and endless city. So I ask myself what will become of our natural world? Where can I take my kids to see a tree? This truly horrifying thought was the catalyst for this image. An yes my entire family's featured in this image, with a few changes for aesthetic reasons. Double click the image for a truly large view. The original image was rendered at 3200 pixels wide, the posted version is at 1200 so you can imagine the details. If you took the time to read this thanks, and thanks for looking.

A very telling image, and sad too. Here in Florida we lose more wildlife and habitat due to the these ridiculous house developments. It makes me angry, it's all about greed. It does make one wonder if we will end up the way of your image.

Wonderful image and sad thought. I think people will always demand to keep nature alive and well, if not exactly the same as it is now. Your image is a perfect example of how we can let others know how we feel. Keep it up!

Wonderful work! And yes I do believe we are heading down this very road. People are just out of control.

Mega Sprawls - a very complicated subject. Its a very interesting proposition but I find some hope in the past. Many of the forest I walk through I can find old post, rotted barbed wire, etc that tells me that in the 1700 or 1800 this was farm land. A great deal of the land that is now forest and I hear some talk like its always has been forest I know was actually at one time someones farm. If you look carefully the evidence is there. I have also found forest where once was a suburbia - I figure 1930's green pine built houses and the remains of the Depression era logging and housing camps - even graveyards. I have seen the same happening to developments that where done in the 1970s today. Before I end - very nicely done.

Wonderful image and your words are oh-so-true. Reminds me of the old Joni Mitchell song "Big Yellow Taxi": "They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum, and they charged the people a dollar and half just to see 'em." Great job!

I know what you mean ,,I moved away from San Diego in 2001 and now after 8 years I have driven back and the seas of homes and business is unreal ,,there are no new freeways so it is gridlock at commute time ,,I am so glad I live in the Mountains and the road is only 2 lane ,,there are more houses and a few more business but air is still clean and the people are still friendly ,,you are so good at what you do your renders are great

A horrific vision of the future. If the bees go, will we be far behind? And then nature will reclaim the land.
