Description
The sun was going down and the temperature was falling fast, the smell of snow hanging heavy and wet in the air. He removed his helm and sank down on the steps of the ruin that was the Temple of Janos Light-bringer when he was a boy.
When he was a boy. How long ago had that been? Sixty years? Seventy? Arn Caleb had traveled far since that time, in years as well as miles. He was home now, but the not the home he remembered.
His pale grey eyes stared out over the ruins of what was the place of his birth almost eighty years past, but in his mind, he still saw it as it was that day.
His father had bid him goodbye and lead his company of lancers north in what be later known as the first battle in The Three Kings War. He had never come home and even now, Arn had no idea what had happened to him. A year after his father left, Arn was summoned to the court of King Danleus IV and enrolled in the Academy to begin his education in warfare, sponsored by the King himself.
Arn was a natural and by the age of seventeen, was leading his own company of lancers when the Great War broke out. King Danleus was over-thrown by his cousin and anyone still loyal to the old king was slain or driven into exile.
He had spent the last sixty years employed as a mercenary, training boys that would become great generals and even kings. But, Arn’s birthright had been taken when the king fell, his destiny changed. His fathers manor given to one of the new kings favorites.
Now, old and tired, his face lined with years and his body crossed with scars, Arn had finally come home to rest. Nothing to show for sixty years of service but the battered armor he wore.
He winced a little as the old pain shot down his left side again, only this time he didn’t reach for the powders the healer had given him. There was no need. His journey was over, now, finally, he could sleep.
Thanks to everyone for all the support you've shown this noob.

Wow....thanks. Like I've said before, some of the art ya'll put on here is just amazing to me. I'm still a noob,(I just found out what nodes were in Nov.) and to have some of the artist I listed as my favorites post reviews is great. P.S. Love your "Creed" stuff, FantastArt

This is a great piece of work. Do not put yourself down as a knob. My greatest kudos go to those of us who are both writers and drawers. You are in that league. The writing is compelling and once I started I had to read it through. The image well depicts a beaten up old warrior at the end of his days. Well done.
