Description

Sintra, palace. Even if it was on a hillside, Sintra could get quite hot in the summer, and at the time there was no air conditioning. So they had a "cool room", an inner, deep courtyard with trees and fountains, and on the north side an open shadowy room that stayed cool even in the hottest days. On the left a view of the courtyard, and of the opening of the room, kitchen chimneys on the background. On the right the inside of the cool room. I think the derivation from islamic architecture is quite obvious, makes me think of the Zisa palace of Palermo and such.
