Description

This is the completed work shown a few weeks ago of my 1st in a series of WWI canvases. The Great Gun is the work of my friend, Aleksey Kontsedalov "Alex Kontz" vendor name, who's wonderful models can be found on Turbo Squid. Alex also modeled a number of barbwire situations which he will be adding to his on line collection. 52hr render on a MacPro dual quad only slight adjustments in CS3 for contrast & brightness. Hope you like the final...you really need to see an original full size for those looking for the rats in the picture. Finally, my work is getting better because friends are pushing me. While it is nice to receive the "Wonderful Picture" it would be far better if we all took a little more time to comment constructively. I for one will start following my words here and try to add comments that will be helpful in the long run, and hopefully not hurt in the neartime. Afterall we are here to show, learn and improve.... always room for improvement.

to start with, i think this is a very good image. personally i always react primarily to the mood or feel of an image. of course there are always things that could be better, but is it that important? the dead trees could be more realistic probably, as is the case with the sand bags, especially on the left. i could find more, but i don't want to, it would not improve the image substantially. the quality lies mainly in the atmosphere in my opinion and that is what i am looking for.

Superb amount of details, nothing should be left to the imagination IMHO in a historical piece and you've certainly not done that. The gun barrel/turret (excuse my ignorance of this) looks newer than the base/wheels, obviously this could be due to a replacement, but i read somewhere that was virtually impossible in the trenches, I may be wrong of course but everything else is beautifully dirty and looks very impressive. I totally agree with your sentiment about contructive critism and wish to make the Vue gallery as a shining example how we as members of Renderosity can learn and grow together whilst still having the best online/friendly community there is. Perhaps a mention on the forum could possibly help this and like you say putting it into action.

Great work! I wouldn't change a thing. My aunt's house was blown away in an F5 tornado last spring, and afterwards, her trees looked just like those in your picture. Wonderful image!

Exceptional image and great atmosphere. What is the light under the gun carriage - it looks like a gas fire - creates a cool reflection across the water. Looks like there is someone leaning against the side of the gun carriage - but the scale is far off as the person would be a giant.

Ok... I'll take the time then hehe First it's a great composition ;) Things I would change though: the cat which doesn't look real, the tree on the left that looks more like it belongs to a surreal scene and the sky that's blending in too much, so I think it should either be much lighter or much darker. Wonderful otherwise :)
