Description

Every 6.5 seconds someone dies from tobacco use, says the World Health Organization. Research suggests that people who start smoking in their teens (as more than 70 percent do) and continue for two decades or more will die 20 to 25 years earlier than those who never light up. It is not just lung cancer or heart disease that cause serious health problems and death. In this link you’ll find some of smoking’s less publicized side effects – from head to toe : En suivant ce lien, vous trouverez une description des effets secondaires du tabac moins connus et affectant l’ensemble du corps humain, de la tête aux pieds : www.who.int/tobacco/en/smokers_fr_en.pdf Thank you very much for your comments on my previous upload: thumb_1820325.jpg " Ponta de São Lourenço"

Your information is true, however, I can add that smoking can cause heart disease and cancer, as well as many other problems that kill. Take it from someone who is painfully aware of this for several reasons.

That's their choice to make. The same goes for all risky behavior like drinking, drugs, and promiscuous sex. If you know the risks, then you are to blame. Smoking killed my mother, and she smoked even though she knew it was bad for her. But it was her choice.

a fine portrait nevertheless. You know, whenever I read of those studies, another studie comes to my mind from years ago (I would have to look up the link in the net) where 9000 people where surveyed over 10 years half of them living just their ordinary lifes with smoking, drinking ,overweight and so on, half of them looking for their health doing sport, eating healthy stuff, no smoking... You know what? The mortality in both groups was equal: True, the ordinary sinners died more from heart diseases, cancer and so on, but in the so called healthy group the number of accidents in sports and suicides was a lot higher....

Let's see ... that would mean this man must be about 35 years old. Wow. Smoking really ages you! (He looks okay to me ... how come he's not dead yet?)

A very clear, tack-sharp photo with a poignant message. I concur with your text, but feel more compelled to comment on the great exposure and candid nature of the photo.

Thank you for speaking out against smoking. It is one of the ugliest habits, because it doesn't just affect the person who does it. It affects the rest of us, too. We now have a smoke-free state. What a blessing!
