My name is Tony Shaw and I have been working for a UK Bank since I left school in 1983. I have spent from 1990 working in their IT department as a software developer. With the threat of redundancy hanging over me next year, and having written a web-site for my Dad, I decided to train myself up in web and graphic design and as a result found Renderosity.
The graphic tools I'm using in my spare time are Adobe Photoshop, Bryce, Apophysis, Terragen and Vue ... I don't have any particular favourite as they all have their good and bad points.
I have not posted some of my very early works as they are quite basic and would not look out of place in comics, however I hope you will take time to browse through my gallery so far and any comments, whether good or bad will be greatly received as they will keep me motivated and hopefully improve my designs.
Happy rendering.

Great render Tony! I hear you on the cut & pasted comments. It took me about 6 months as a newbie to figure out the correlation between # of comments, art charts & fragile, insecure egos. The C & Pers are pretty obvious after awhile; I then ignore them, by not reinforcing negative behavior, they leave me alone. Yes, it means I don't get pages of comments, BUT, to my mind, the comments I do get are sincere. Coming from people, who for whatever reasons, enjoy my art visions. R'osity & most other sites like it are nothing more than Internet communities that mostly provide hosting that ultimately make money for a select few, the owners, - at the expense of "artists who share their work." Most excellent render btw :D

Love those rock formations Tony, and the off kilter POV really adds to this image! As for the art charts, I never look at them!

A wonderful image - great colour and atmosphere! I share some of your frustrations, but I'm not sure you will ever get around it completely, it's just human nature. I gave up chasing popularity a long time ago!

Excellent work here. The composition is beautiful, but what I like most is the use of light and how it effects every element of the scene, specially the atmosphere created on the water at the foreground of the image. Really fantastic.

This is a topic I have also tried to champion with no result unfortunately. The majority of these hug club/comment spamming members are the type of needy individual that post every day and comment/favorite every image they can to see their name at the top of some list on a niche website. Over time, I saw that nothing would be done to stop it- these same individuals lack any artistic talent, and as a result end up purchasing everything in their renders--thus click and render. Rendo isn't going to punish their cash cows- so the mooing will go on. Really, when you think about the amount of effort that goes into these peoples campains--and they have to post every day on top of it--Its like a full time job of being pathetic. Onto your image- the overall colour theme is pleasing- particularly the hints of orage into the horizon. The added atmosphere gives a sense of depth. The Camera's field of view is fairly wide, I am guessing this is intended- and the slight distortion offered by this lens representation is not a bad thing- that is why they make wide angle lenses- particularly for that effect. Tipping the camera a bit adds a nice sense of movement or dynamic that would otherwise be lost with the camera bearing at 0 degrees. The comet type effects in the sky are nice eye candy as well.

beautiful colors and textures love the movement i for one feel art is just that art i do art because i love it not because im not on any art chart i myself believe if they truely wanted art charts then set a criteria based on a set of factors about art

you are right, thats wy i give nothing about charts,my satisfaction is the very few (around 20 nice artists)who come and see my humble works and give mee feedback hat makes my days ,i mena what shall i stress my nerves just to be for 60 seconds the a..h... of the day, sorry i mean... well great work here tony.

I pay no attention to the charts. I only comment on images that touch me. this is one of them... the lighting and color is dramatic; it's an excellent fantasy scene.

I like how you did the POV, and the copy-n-paste reference, I assume, was also used in the duplicate comets and such? Nice bit of humor for a subject that clearly vexes you. My only additional remark is, I kinda dwelled on similar lines a while ago, but ultimately decided that there wasn't much I could do about it, so I mostly focus on artists I know and respect, images that I like, and let the rest fall where it will.

Taking time to add more then just cut and paste is why I'm always so far behind on my comments. Even when I just leave a "awesome work on this lovely render" bit, it's typed out, not cut and paste. Though sometimes it seems like a good idea, especially when I'm eons behind. As for favoriting .. it's hard not to fave when someone's work just makes me oooh and aahhhh or gasp from sheer delight. But, I will restrain myself, should that make you happy. Now then, Of all the dragon ones you've posted in the past few weeks, this is the most awesome. Maybe it's the golden glow.

Love the image, kind of a nightmarish quality to the mood and atmosphere, apparently in keeping with your mood at the time. I guess we all really crave good honest constructive commentary, but sometimes even a "Yes I see it, I understand what you're doing" is good. I know myself, there have been a few times I wanted to just hang it up, but enough people encouraged me that I carried on. I do hear you though: The "popularity contest" stuff kinda sucks.

Guess I'm going to be the scrooge.. heh heh. Don't have a clue as to what you guys are talking about with art charts and cut n paste comments. I comment on pieces I like or ones I can see improvements can be made. I don't comment on every pic I view. nor do I even rate every pic I comment on. But thats just me. And the only favs i have are the ones that just floor me. Not taking away from anyone, but only a few touch me deeply in one way or another. Now for sweet and sour. I love this piece. its gorgeous, BUT, and I really hate to say this since I'm a Dragon lover, the Dragons take away from it. A distraction. They just dont seem to fit. But the landscape, lighting, and the comets are nicely composed and fit. JMHO
