Description

Number 7 in the series of portraits from Fae Valley and tonight we have Carnetto, Zlata's very close friend, who just happens to be a very large but gentle dragon. When I pointed out that he had no scales like other dragons, Zlata politely informed me that he comes from a race of specailly bred dragons. While their skin is soft and supple like a truly fine leather, it is very resistant to cuts, slices and punctures - in my mind I thought of bio-Kevlar! This breed or race of dragons have been created by the fae eons ago by selective breeding and some fae magic to get the skin to just the right strength and durability as well as the suppleness to ride on without the need for a saddle. While mainly carnivorous, they do enjoy veggies in their diet and have been known to wipe out a crop of lettuce in one night. (I didn't ask what type of dressing they preferred with their salad). The pose, as it were, happened when I asked if Carnetto had a mate as I snapped the picture. He was smiling as he was recalling his mate's beauty. So, now you know why he doesn't have scales like other dragons do and so do I. I do thank those who sent me links to sites that provides textures and mats for the mil-dragon and maybe later on, I'll post some pictures of Carnetto's distant cousins, provided they'll let me get close enough. I am a big fan of the 'DragonRiders of Pern' series, and the dragons there did not have scales as the earthly dragons had and I took my cue from that series, besides, I didn't have the scales, or couldn't find them in my runtime. I have them now, but I like Carnetto and his kin (soon to be seen in Fae Valley) the way they are, scaleless. Thanks to all of you who commented and faved my last upload. I really appreciate them. The background is a modified picture that I created a long time ago and never got around to posting it. But the colour goes well with Carnetto's green skin. Have a great Thursday! Mike

Carnetto is unike. Does'n't have to be like every dragon like we don't had to be like every body else.

ahhh, well, now I totally understand why he has no scales, and it makes perfect sense! Much easier for the fae to ride bareback this way! Excellent story and portrait of this gentle giant. ps, he can have my share of lettuce, I'm not really of fan of the stuff, lol.

There we go! I'm glad Zlata straightened out the confusion. Wonderful portrait of Carnetto and his expression comes out very nicely.
