Description

BUY THIS CONVEYANCE!!! Eighty-seventh in a series of classic vehicles, captured 9/21/08, at the beautiful Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, held annually at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula in overpopulated Southern California. For more information on this event, see my posting for 9/28/08. The Ford Model T has an extensive history in the automotive market, lasting for nearly 20 years. It is often called the 'Tin Lizzie' and the 'Flivver' and is credited with 'putting America on wheels.' The first Model T was produced on September 27th, 1908 at the Piquette Plant in Detoit, Michigan. There are two classes of the Model T, those that were produced before 1919 and after 1919. The pre-1919 Model T's are known as veteran cars while the later models are called vintage cars. Even though the name Model T was used for almost twenty years, it was much improved both visually and mechanically over the years. At all times, the vehicle could be had in a wide variety of bodystyles. The open touring cars and roadsters were cheaper to produce and thus were manufactured in greater numbers. From 1908 through 1927, more than 15 million of the affordable Ts were built; by 1921 they accounted for more than half the cars in the world. The Volkswagen 'Beetle' is the only car model to outsell the Model T Ford. Source: conceptcarz.com With that said, I know most of you will be disappointed, but this is the last of my Model T series. And despite the obstacles and my disoriented condition at the time, I believe I was able to capture all of them on display at the show. Thankx for dropping by. During this winter, many of you are or have been wet and freezing where you live, but this has been the driest, sunniest and warmest month of January we've experienced in decades around this particular part of the planet.

Hate to see the end of this run of Model Ts, but I know you've got a lot more up your sleeve :-) I have a photo of my grandfather, grandmother, my father and my aunt with their new 1925 Model T. It was a touring model like this one. The best thing according to my father was that it had a self starter!!!
