On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

They all have something to add. I think the B&W - the fountain in the middle with the statues looks the best. For the Infrared the tree and its leaves and are the best and look interesting. The color the grass looks the best - but its not an unusual color shot that I can see except its striking when viewed next to the others.

Great experiment which turned out quite well. Blew my mind to begin with. Thought my trifocals had gone whompy jawed.

Excellence Bill I like the results very much, I did an IR technique in CS3 before I upgraded to 4, I gave a link too to a great video tut for the system :) Here's the image if you have a mind to have a gander :) http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1769573

Nice experiment! For this particular image I'd go for b/w, adding a little more contrast... that's what I'd do, you don't have to... :D

I'm torn between the Monochrome and the IR..

well, for starters, the IR part is blah: the reason being not enough contrast. IR works best against a clear sky (cold) with warm leaves/buildings/people. The full color pane is tad ordinary - good camera work but uninspiring. The middle b&w shows contrast, and of course the interesting statuary. The eye always seeks out contrast early (first is overall brightness). Hey, not original with me. Learned that one from a prof. in grad school. Neat experiment.

I like what the IR effect does with the tree leaves. IR is fascinating to me. I like the color best for this particular image, because it gives the most interesting information. It might depend on what quality in the image you'd like to show off the most. The B&W seems flat to me - not enough reflections. Can you turn the fountain blue? LOL

Great. I like both the color and IR best.

Fine use of clipping masks. I like the color and infrared best of all. Black and white does best on its own. I wish I was in a situation where I was bored and had nothing to do. It's constantly warm and sunny during the day so I can't use that as an excuse to stay indoors.

Neat...!!!!

Excellent results! I must try this some time! :)

That's quite a cool effect, my friend! Do you work in advertising? Lol! I'm leaning towards the centre one myself! Great work! Rob.

superb presentation and post work

Great show of post work prowess!!! Nice work Bill!

I actually like the b & w the best, but with the three together is kind of cool too. I have CS4 now, and just learning it. I barely made some files with it, and just got the "Classroom in a Book" to learn more. ;o) I hope I get somewhere with it!!

Very good post work here Bill! I'm not good with masks, so admire anyone who can hone that skill, especially with PS, which is not very user friendly! I have to agree that the center image has the greatest contrast and the eye seems to be drawn to that one.

It is hard to choose as they all look great but each in its different way. Lovely work and nicely presented.

if you are in doubt, choose the mainstream, Bill (lol) the b&w tells a lot! color would make it regular
mermaid
hey this it really a creative one, Bill, love the idea and guess if I had to choose b&w would be my choice...smile

Ohhhh I'm definately drawn to the false IR on the right. Cool bit of experimenting youv'e done here! : )
