Description

For my 500th posting at Renderosity, I have a render that is dedicated to my very good friend and relative-by-marriage, Bob Keller. Bob's primary job is as a minister of a small church, but he is also a part-time employee of the local school system and drives a school bus for the district, which is mostly a rural area. We meet every week at a coffee shop and some of the tales he relates to me about his experiences driving a school bus are a hoot--and sometimes they are anything but funny. I marvel at Bob's patience; so this one is for you, Bobart,--and all those other conscientious school bus drivers that safely deliver our kids to and from school. I should point out that the school district on the bus is the one that both Bob and I attended. In my day, though, it wasn't a unified district and we only had one or two buses for the entire High School. Now, each school district comprises a much larger territory and large fleets of buses. I've had the model for several years. It is one that I "kaboshed" together using several models. The original model was just an empty shell. I added seats, a protective grill for the driver's back, a dashboard, etc., etc. I also replaced the many lights with my own versions of them, made the printed signs from various Bryce terrains, and borrowed some more realistic tires from kalebdaark's "Wasteland Trader" truck and bus. Totally retextured everything from scratch. Drive is Mike3 with "Russell" morphs and skinmats. Think is clothing is from PoserWorld. I apologize for the lo-poly school kids. I was already pushing the limits with the bus empty, so I used some created by Ed Baumgarten. I believe the barbed wire fence is by THE DUDE. Vegetation is all by Modualz (Traveler and Judith Ward) at RDNA and they also created the road textures, which I converted to another Bryce terrain. The water is my own material file. Think that covers it. I also had to do quite a bit of post-work in PSP 5.0 to complete the render. Thanks again for stopping by and for your many encouraging comments on past works. Jeremy

First and foremost - congratulations on your 500th render posting! Its a nice tribute to a friend on your 500th image. Thats quite a remarkable and memorable milestone! I think you did an excellent job on the bus, its convincingly realistic. Kitbashing / kaboshing model parts together reminds me alot like Legos, back when I was a kid. And its amazing what you can assemble together with poser models with a little thoughtfulness, creativity, imagination and sometimes a little re-texturing. :) I never was a bus driver, but I used to live out in a rural farm area, thus I can appreciate the experience your friend had with a school bus. Out in those rural country farm roads, there was no easy cop-out or alternative around it - you simply had to drive through it and deal with it as best you could. Excellent work on the muddy road - all the rumpled lumpy grooves, ruts and pits - truly looks like just as I remember it! When those roads get water logged, its pure clay. That muddy road sure brings back memories driving on the dirt grid road to my grandparents farm I used to live at. Lots of times it was constant borderline between trying to keep the vehicle heading straight without getting stuck or skidding into the ditch. I was fortunate not getting stuck, but my grandfather's tractor pulled out many people that did. Or better yet, heaven forbid if you ever had to stop and change a flat tire in that ankle deep muck. Well done on your 500th posting, and a special thankyou for sharing your story - both story and picture both brought back some nostalgic memories of my own :)

Very nicely done. great'bashing efforts. shadows & relitive size of nearby fence is somewhat disconcerting. I am impressed that you grew up in a school district that could afford a real yaller bus instead of you also having to walk 5 miles each way, uphill, and in snow to boot. heh heh.

The texturing is brilliant here. The bus looks like it is stuck in that mud. No school today then....
