Description
My forth attempt to make a decent render in Poser with my remapped P4 Horse and People.
Rendered in Poser Pro with GC set to 2.20, and 4 lights. One IBL, 2 Infinites, and 1 Spot. The IBL was set to 15% intensity, and the rest were set to 100%. A tree Gel was noded to the IBL and one Infinite.
Various postwork was done in Photoshop, including playing with contrast and brightness.
I'm not completely happy with the results, but am also not sure what else to do with it.

You have way better lighting than Mine DPhoadley,IBL and me are way not that muh of a friend, and I think the result his good, not to said great :),maybe some postwork using the curve layers in Photoshop?setting is great and they are great character too!well done!

Great composition!

You asked for advice, I try to provide some - my apology if that comes too harsh, it's not meant in any unfriendly way. I like the picture. From the theory, one infinite light and one IBL should be enough if there isn't any other light source in the image than the sun. Two infinites at 100% most probably are too much. Maybe that's why the shadows look a bit strange to me. Did you use ray traced shadows? If you don't, try to, or at least use a big shadow map. I may be wrong, but it looks like you use default shadows, which use a much too small map. I think that the textures are another big problem. The ground does not look really believable, the colors of the flowers look unrealisticly bright to me. The blue tint of the background is strange too. The poses on the girls are very good, the figures in whole a well done. Does that help?

Beautiful work!

Some suggestions: Start with minimal lighting. Use an IBL at about 20% -- if you can manage it use one with a darker bottom than top. Use a single infinite light, at about 80%, with ray-traced shadows and a shadow blur of about 2 or 4. (This assumes that the day is clear. There isn't much point of using the tree-gel on the IBL (small details don't result in any change), but you should use it on the infinite. For your sky, you might try the free skydome at RDNA. When I use it, I turn shadows off, and change the shader so that the dome goes into the alternate diffuse and specular nodes rather than the main ones. (This way it doesn't react the the light.) For the ground, you might try using a seamless texture tiled on the ground plane -- it really looks pixilated here. I think that there are some in the freebies which would work. You might also try plugging in the ground texture (or it's inverse) into the bump input to make it a bit less flat. I'm not sure what you can do about the trellis work with the flowers -- it looks to me like it is basically a flat prop. You might have to go with something with a little more depth, or change to a different prop. In postwork, you may want to slightly desaturate the image -- it looks like the colors are far to vivid, but that may be an affect of too much light.

I noticed a flat look to the trellis and flowers too. Maybe just eliminate it? Can't offer advive on lighting so I won't try. :) BTW:How can I find the sky dome? If Itry a search, it goes haywire. And then I just have to scroll through all the free items to find one...sigh.

Nice job, Dave. I do not know how to use IBL myself. Skydomes are in RDNA freestuff.

That looks like a Macrocosm ground texture to me. Out of the box they're quite "flat", which is very noticeable along the edge of the white wall. If you have the morphs, use some of the "noise" morph on the Macrocosm figure to make it a little bumpier, and use a displacement node on the material to add finer grained unevenness. Oh, and tile that texture; it's designed to be tileable. The sharp unnatural line where ground meets wall can be obscured by placing a couple of plant props just in front of the wall. Some rocks would also do pretty well there. If you're not afraid of long render times, you can use dynamic hair for grass. Displacement would also work well on that old wooden door and the railing Poppa is leaning on. If you're going to use the RDNA Skydome, make sure to turn OFF polygon smoothing on the dome properties! If you don't, you'll get weird artifacts on the dome, not unlike the cellular artifacts I see on your sky right now. And - use bagginsbill's tips on gamma correction. It'll give your render natural looking and quite vivid colors, at much lower light intensities. For sunlight, a single infinite light would do the job. A light gel on the infinite will give you nice tree shadows. The poses are actually pretty good! A few little adjustments - Judy doesn't seem to be looking at Pops, and the rope in Pop's right hand should be moved a little bit down and to the right. The horse poses look just fine to me.

Very nice image implying a lot of work. The lighting is a very acomplished one and I would be really unable to do that quality for now. I also noticed that the "treillis" appears somewhat unrealistic, but from a photographer's point of view I would rather wish a better sharpness, because at this distance it would necessarily look pinpoint sharp if both the foreground (horses and cute ladies) and the architecture are such. Although very old, the horses look great except for the hair of the left one which looks unrealistic, like a piece of cloth and not true hair. The right horse doesn't show this problem. The two girls, although based on very old mesh too behave brilliantly in these poses. Clothes are excellent. I like the idea that the left one is wearing corrective glasses, which adds interest and mood. No doubt that this is worth a 5… with stars!

lol cowboy vs hooters girls...sure you're not from texas? i like it...very vivid nice depth why not try an anaglyph of this? (red/blue) might be really cool

Another big improvement. Your hard work is paying off, well done for taking note of others' constructive critiques. Some interesting and useful points above, very helpful. Keep up the good work.

I have to say, I use AO on the floor in all my images now, because usually stuff looks like it's floating. The whites are maybe a bit overwhelming, but all in all... not too bad. :) The background is pixellated, it seems, maybe convert it to a higher resolution if you can?
