Pompeii,September 2009.
This is one of the best-known fountains in Pompeii. The basin of the fountain is carved from limestone rather than lesser quality stone, and in addition has a fine sculpture of the goddess Fortuna/Concordia with spigot.
Our guide told us that the location of fountains are thought to be significant in that they could indicate neighborhood groupings and be used as a kind of modern postal address. The decoration of the fountains could also indicate the status of both the neighbourhood in comparison to other neighbourhoods, and the status of the patron of the fountain.
Many thanks for joining me..your time, comments and favs are much appreciated.

Fascinating information and something I really did not know about the quality of fountains. I knew there had been several but not the significance. Wonderful shot!
