Description

Some people have questioned whether the Mona RebelMommy model that I am working with as a possible new Ninshubar can carry the weight of being a fighter and scrapper. That is plenty fair enough because Mona appears to be more overtly fem than the previous Suzie Q by DM. So here I give Mona a bit of a combat test to see if she might pass muster. For my new Ishtar I did both a portrait and an action charging scene, in addition to doing a cartoon image of her in a very threatening pose. So it is only fair that the newest candidate for Ninshubar should get the chance to prove that she is not just a beautiful young wallflower but has the potential to carry the fierce looks of a female warrior. So here is Ninshubar on the attack, done in what I think of as the fantasy comic book style of the late 1960's to early 1970's. I'll leave it to Faemike to tell us if this is a reasonable knockoff because I am not that familiar with the details of the genre. This is for my friend Roy (Shadowhawk2zero), a real life warrior and someone with whom I have had many deep discussions about the way of the warrior. Roy pushes the boundaries of his style and makes us question what it means to be human. His images can be frightening to some. But this is a man who understands the real meaning "of human bondage," and I respect that. This is what I wrote on an image in Roy's gallery and it is fitting here: "You may think Shadowhawk is all about leather and lace but if you scratch below the surface you will see he explores the essence of being human. Your talent and style never cease to amaze me. Yes our styles are really different but fundamentally we are exploring what it means to be human. It's just that we both go beyond the purely "pretty girl" image that dominates the site. Not that I have anything against portrayals of beauty, but somebodies gotta push some boundaries. Might as well be us!" Roy has a fine eye for detail, so I used some of his suggestions, particularly the look of her eyes, to try and bring out a look of fearless determination. Hope you like her Roy! All post work done in CS4 and PSPx2 with no add on filter packs.

I think she turned out very well. You accomplished this comic book feel to her. Her warrior look is very well done. She can be almost anything you want her to be. She can be sweet when she need be and she can be fierce when she need be as well..Great job Roxy.

She passes in my book. If you'd have equiped her with massive weaponry and heavy armor then probably not. More than one type of fighter and she makes for a great finesse warrior. Cool style on this one Rox, you gonna do another of her soon?

What a surprise it was to see that you had posted an image when I opened my email this morning, then to see it was dedicated to me really made my morning! You have done an outstanding job capturing that Conan style from the old comic books. I do't care what people say about Rebelmommy's Mona character being to "Girly", it is a testiment to your skill that that you can take this girly character and make her a strong warrior maiden. Using a tan leather top and skirt adds a lot to this characters authentisity, this is what I would expect her to wear if I ran into her on the battlefield. I like that you used the scabbard idea, I would find it hard to see a warrior of her nature and skill just picking up a loose weapon when she needed it. I also like the rust on the blad she is wielding, things were not shiny like they are today, yes a warrior took care of his/her weapons, that is what kept them alive, but today we have chrome dipping and stainlesssteel, they had iron, bronze, and copper. They could have used silver and gold, but they are to soft and shiny is something you wnat for a parade not a battle. The only thing I can see that makes me wonder is her feet, I couldn't do that, but I am not a Goddess either (lol). Over all for the costume I have to give it 9.5 for believability, the only thing that detracted from it was the lack of sandles or some kind of leather foot covering. Now for the character herself, I have to say I am really impressed with you using the Mona character. You have deffinately taken this character out of her standard envirornment and make her sine like a a small nova! You have kept the girly qualities of this character, all that jewlery is a nice touch to remind the viewer that she is afterall female. A lot of it could be considered dual-purpose, the bands around her upper and lower arms could act as guantlets in a sense, they would block a sword strike, although it would hurt like hell to do so, but it is better to feel the pain, it lets you know you are still alive to continue. Now they wouldn't work very well against a jab, but that is why she has a sword, to parey with, plus the spiral pattern keeps it light so she isn't burdened with eaxtra wieght. Her facial features are awesome, you have done a l ot of work to take some of that cutsie look from her and replace it with a fire that I have seen many times, just not on a woman before. It is kind of startling, I will admitt, but you have really done well. Poser has always had a problem with its rendering of eyes, you can never get the full expression out of them. Maybe someday, someone will find a way to create a program that will make that possible, but until then you have done an excelent job of creating a real warriors face on a beautiful woman. BRAVO my dear Roxy, BRAVO! I take my hat off to you and humbly bow to you in respect on this one. Simply your best piece of work to date!!

As one who has read a fair amount of comics, of all genres and styles, I have to say that this is a very good rendition of the archtype female warrior would look like and her pose and expression go very well with the character. In looking at the jewelry on her arms, she probably would have them over a leather sheath - as was pointed out, the spiral would stop a slashing attack, the leather would minimize the point attack(s) as well as 'cushion' the blow from the slash. Great render - wonderful pose and expression, Roxy!
