Description

Hello everyone. If the animation does not play in this view, please try looking at the full size view. This is my poor attempt at creating an animated image. I'm not sure if this will display right on some computers, but I hope so. This is the picture I drew for my new avatar icon. My namesake is a submarine from a TV show that aired during the 1960's. I remember coming home from school when I was about 8 or 9 years old, to watch old episodes of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "Time Tunnel", "Space: 1999", and "Star Trek". Although those old shows were sometimes pretty cheesy, they must have had some lasting effect on me, because I joined the US Navy, and spent 21+ years as a Submariner. I painted the images from scratch in Photoshop, using a photo from the web as a guide. The animation effect was created using multiple layers in Photoshop and saving the file "for the web" and as an "animated gif". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the file size down far enough to animate my avatar, but this will do just fine for this year. If anyone knows any other methods of creating animated icons, I'd sure like to know. Thanks, Tom Seaview123

Excellent Tom, animation works great in full view. Oh yes and to think the special effects in those shows were great for the time. I used to race home for Dark Shadows.

I had to do full view as well. But that is a cool animation. For creating icons and banners you can try Animated GIF Banner Maker or Microsoft GIF Maker. The first one has a trial period but the other is on Microsoft site and is free.

Yeah, had to get the full view to get the Seaview. I remember those old shows when I was a kid too. I don't remember much about the Time Tunnel though.

I realize I'm dating myself here, but I watched these shows in 'first-run' primetime on ABC (Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Time Tunnel, & Land Of The Giants). NBC(Star Trek, Fantastic Journey), and CBS(Lost In Space). I was too into the stories and action to be aware of something called special effects. Which I guess is what Irwin Allen and Gene Roddenberry were hoping for. Those guys did quite a good job considering that they were working with extremely limited budgets. And they didn't have people like John Dykstra and Stan Winston around back then. Not to mention there was no LucasArts. And for thekingtut, Time Tunnel was sort of LIKE Quantum Leap, but it didn't involve the time travelers inhabiting other peoples bodies. Plus, the time travelers wound up at acual historic events (i.e. on the Titanic just hours before it was to strike the iceberg. Or at Pearl Harbor, on Dec 6, 1941.) thing like that.

I have the original movie on tape. There was a board game based on the series and I had the model and a rubber band "bathtub" underwater model and the "flying sub" model by Aurora.

It works just fine in full view Tom. Needless to say, I watched them all as well, back in Germany (which sounded pretty funny, now that I know the real voices of most of the actors). Depending on the program you're using, you should be able to resample the image (including animation) to the size you need for you avatar - I've tried something similar in PhotoPaint / DRAW before.

Cool! Never fooled much with animation, not enough patience. Very neat, too bad the avatar version didn't work out though but the new one is fine as it is.
