Description

This is one of my entries in the Forum Challenge on "Lighting". I noticed a faint light coming from Megan's room when she was supposed to be sleeping. This is what I discovered when I opened the door! I made her stay put while I set up my tripod! (so much for the strict bedtime routine, eh?) I did some post work to create the darkness around her - a little light & contrast play and some black brushing at 50% opacity. Thanks for stopping in. Jodie Please visit my personal website...

This might explain the mysterious yawns in the morning as well... Nice shot - funny story (including the tripod -- this sounds like a heredity thing :o) The post work is so subtle that I would never have guessed it had been done -- always just the way it should be done.

This is such a great shot. I'm glad to see it out front! (I was a bit behind the times, huh?) Wonderful image. I'm sure after you got your shot, you made her turn off the light and go to sleep. :)

Your did great! I can't imagine getting such a clear shot without all the noise I usually get in low lighting. This is really GREAT!

Very well done, a great capture and part of the mood of childhood! Aside from being less photogenic, my Mom would have had a hard time getting a shot of me. Reading under the covers with a torch on my head, in order to reduce that spill of light under the door! Thanks for the memories! Clive

really nice bluish & purple hues, Jodie, and the feeling of looking in on someone lost in thought (and comfortably sunk into sheets & blankets). The blues, violets & greens all blend mysteriously in that little light; and you have the 'clarity' you get which I've never been able to explain, but it's so real. It just has clarity—things are clean & present even in shadow. You even do that in action shots, it's just in you! And I agree with duncan about the postwork: It's there but barely noticeable. A very sensitive shot, sensitively prepared, and it grows on one with each viewing.

Magnificent lighting effects and postwork on display here of Megan reading her Harry Potter book, Jodie! I like the little lamp attachment that gives off just enough ambiance. And, after you took the picture, you grounded her for a week for not being asleep as she should have been.
