Description

A shot I've been wanting for a while since I messed up stitching a pano I'd tried early last year. Whenever there's light and I'm in town, I think about going to take it but the cathedral grounds are either closed, it's too damn cold or I don't have my camera. On this occasion it happened to be empty of people, open (just), warm enough not to need gloves, and I had all my kit in tow (plus wide angle lens this time, negating the need to stitch shots)... happy enough with the result so I guess patience pays ;) The shot is of St Andrews cemetary/ cathedral grounds. You can see part of the ruined cathedral on the right, and St Rule's tower on the left, which provides, imo, the best views of town. Enjoy your evening! Adam ..oh, and this is my first time creating a hdr from 5 bracketed exposures, 2 stops apart each... thought I'd give a shot to what Octagonoid mentioned in the forums... seems good but gotta work quickly to keep those clouds from shooting off!

Adam, i like the interpretation as it fits the mood of the place nicely. The sky has come out in a really surreal way which i also like. When shooting into the sun as you have here i really think that's where the extra couple exposures are needed. Nice HDR !

Naice! (...and sharp). Like the lighting/colours and cloud here, postwork is looking good too. Damned students - too much time on their hands - shouldnt you be doing your dissertation? =P

This really caught my eye. I love that dramatic sky, and the HDR technique is fabulous as is the composition.

Very clever. You give a choice what to see. Step back and see a whole place or wondering separetly in a sections divided by a stone lines.Wonderful tones and light.

Great POV and post work, but you leave me wondering? Do those to stone lines meet? And if so would the POV have been slightly better. I guess I will never know.

well you will if I tell you David.. like this..! the stone lines don't meet, and I actually wanted to be a bit further left to put the foreground statue between the two towers but the compo works best like this... I know what you mean though, if the lines had been converging, it would have been begging for a low pov at the apex
