Description

A truly murderous piece of machinery. Devastating firepower, could carry cannon, bombs, torpedoes, rockets, you name it. First used as a reasonably successful nightfighter, but nowhere near as good as the German equivalents. Largely due to the poor co-ordination with radar controllers. (The Germans had this off to a fine art). However it came into its own later on as development continued, graduating into a major attack aircraft.

Yeah, it was quite the plane--and probably ought to better known among aircraft buffs than it usually is.

It may be of interest to viewers to know how these profiles are made. First a good quality manufacturer's drawing is obtained, if possible. If not, you make your own, in either Photoshop or Illustrator(preferably the latter as it keeps the edges pixel-free). Then the image is fleshed out using all the Photoshop painting tools. Layering and saving all the time. Colours are carefully checked out prior to starting and body cross sections used to ascertain where the highlights should be. (Some aircraft have flat bodies, others have multitudinous curvature). Checks are continuously made against any available photographs of the actual machine to ensure accuracy. 'Near enough' is not good enough in this business! A good knowledge of aircraft construction methods and in my own case, flying experience, helps no end to produce a reasonable accurate image. Once mastered, this technique can be applied to practically anything.

Nice one ! And as I commented on Rob's piece, R Cunningham gives an accurate description of night fighting in this bird. ----------------- Thanks for the information P

Ah, 'Whispering Death', a brilliant plane, and possibly the most powerful (looking) plane in WW2. Nice painting.

Another stunning profile Warren. Thanks so much for the tuition, it will be a great help with texturing.
