I've wanted to come back & appreciate the rest of your Carneval series for some time now (I commented on a few or at least one), and I hope to get to them all, this time on RR. I start with this because it's the next in line from #1 (which I already commented on). You got a real sense of moment & celebration in this, your clarity is strong, and the contrasts are all here too: of vivid light & color with the almost macabre sense of stoniness that accompanies all these age-old festivals; the flesh-color of the masks yet a texture that tells us that these are plastic & not flesh (you got the lines of the plastic well, or whatever these masks are made of); the cloistered, in fact almost claustrophobic sense of the embroidery and other fabric that crowd the human face in these costumes; and the wonderful contrast of the masks with the actual eyes inside it, which---here---stare out in almost sinister fashion. Just terrific. And you've cropped/captured it with no space around it, allowing the cloistered plethora of color, shape & texture to flood the frame. This is a terrific capture of the essence of this festival, this old Cross Quarter festival celebrating the mid point of freezing winter and the hope of spring; and combining so many elements of old & new, myth & legend, etc, into a big lavish celebration. I'll be back for more...I need to get to other artists still (I'm so far behind!), but I'll try to get to all of these eventually. This is a great series!
