Description

It was rapidly getting dark and light conditions deteriorated fast. This is a view from Fort San Cristobal overlooking Old San Juan and a view of Cantano across Bahia de San Juan. The lights of the 'small' ship, the 59,058 GRT 'MSC Lirica', can also be seen. Castillo de San Cristobal is the largest fortification built by the Spaniards in the New World. When it was completed in 1783 it covered a land area of 27 acres. It was built to protect the city from land attacks. Entry to the city was sealed by San Cristobal's double gates. About a third of the fortification was demolished in 1897 to help ease the flow of traffic in and out of the walled city. San Cristobal is part of the San Juan National Historic Site. This picture was taken on 26 January 2009. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my uploads and a special 'Thank you' to those that may have added some of them to their favs, Sig...

A cool evening shot! Well done. They are tricky to do well. 59,000 tonnes! Most of my cruising has been on ships smaller than that! A VERY fine looking shot of an interesting looking city! Great one, my friend. Rob.
