Description

A slight diversion, again, from the norm (is there a Norm here?). Whilst watching some late night TV on Cartoon Network (.....what?!?! The dog likes watching cartoons, okay??), I saw a commercial that never ceases to get my goat. The Art Institute of America (or whatever they call themselves) with their "Become a better artist by taking our mail in test!" BAH!!! You're either a good artist and can only have your skills refined or you aren't. So, I grabbed my notebook just to see if I still had it in me to be 'artistically' creative after my foray into the world of 3D art that I have delighted in loosing myself in. I was pleasantly surprised with my results. This was done on a standard sheet of notebook paper, imported into PSE7 to remove most of the lines, then sent to PhotoImpression 3 to be smudged into looking like a relatively decent looking piece of artwork with that pen and ink or washed brush look to it. The "Medicine Hat" is a pinto pattern, and considered in some Native American traditions to be a sacred animals. Bearing colour of any 'typical' pinto, their name comes from the colour splotches on their heads, looking much like hats, and a shield like marking on their chest. The rest of the body could be marked in a number of ways, but these markings alone made the Medicine Hat or Medicine Shield horses as unique even among their own. All in all the drawing itself took about 15-20 mintues with all the tinkering I did then another about 30 minutes of postwork and touch ups. Don't worry, I'll get back to rendering soon enough. I thank you for your indulgence and I certainly appreciate any feedback.

Fantastic work Stacey!!!! It turned out great I haven't done any conventional art in a long time, except for my "Dragon food for RGUS" image. I know exactly which commercial you are talking about. I get a laugh out of it every time I see it which is usually late at night. Keep up the excellent "old school art"
