Description

Some of you have asked for more info on the Lake and Straining Tower. There is a good article on Lake Vyrnwy in Wikepedia but in brief Lake Vyrnwy and its Dam were built in the 1890s by flooding the valley and submerging the village of Llanwddyn in the process. The outline of the village can still be seen when the water levels are lower. The water supplies Liverpool about 68 miles away and any material is strained out of the water through a metal mesh in the Straining Tower. We spent a great 3 days here walking and cycling - you can hire bikes and cycle the 12 miles or so round the Lake.
