Description

There used to be gardens where we live now. These snow-covered stumps used to be fruit trees. Thank you for looking. Nikolay

Nothing wild about being dead is there? Those stumps say a lot. Your image has the quality of a fine pen and ink drawing. Well done my friend.

Of course, I don't know the circumstances surrounding the garden and trees, I can see this as an allegory of life. It is an excellent image, and an instant favorite, Nikolay.

Moving and sad - the title is enough of a context. great conversion to black and white you did very good work here in vision and technique.

I agree with all these comments, Tim has it, Suzanne, Helle, etc. It's sad, yes, but also somewhat defiant, like the stump is stating its existence with great force. And it's amazing how you take shots and turn them into stark abstracts like this, and allow them their eloquence as well. In pieces like this, you do things with camera-images that can only be called photographic painting, or better, photographic 'thinking': This is like thought as much as imagery. The few lines you allow here are articulation enough, and the broad white plane makes this stump's cry all the more powerful. Sad & defiant & powerful (and I even like the little lines that spill over the frame on the left: A little bit of jazz breaking through!] More fine work, Nikolay, powerfully done.

Stark, to me, a slice of life. But life is not always black and white, we have to remember that. A wonderful, almost abstract view.
