Description

For those of you that are not from ACC country, there are two rival universities that are located only 30 minutes apart. One is the University of North Carolina and the other is North Carolina State University. In the past 12 months, both schools have mourned the loss of two women who were very special to each respective school. In March of 2008, Eve Carson, the UNC Student Body President, was kidnapped from her campus home and gunned down on a dark Chapel Hill street. Her assailants took her life for an ATM card. This past January, NC State Womens Basketball Coach, Kay Yows brave battle with Cancer came to an end. I recently watched a memorial service marking the anniversary of Eves death and thought about both of these amazing women. There are many of us who live here on Tobacco Road who feel a deep loss. But, when looking at the lives of these two Carolina Girls, it occurs to me that it is not about our loss but what we all gained. In her many years of dedication to NCSU, Kay was a towering inspiration to her players, students, and faculty. It goes without saying that she is a testament to the fight against Cancer and to all who now suffer from this disease. It is hard not to look at Eve without wondering what could have been. Pre-Med student, Student Body President, talented, courageous. In a short television interview, a fellow UNC coed told the reporter that she wants to be like Eve and to use Eve as her role model. That says it all. Eve showed every young woman on her campus and at every college that they should always set their sights high and soar to reach their dreams. Legacy

Thank you for them, what they gave and taught to your community can not be stolen or killed. That is the most important now. Respect, Souvenir and Education.
