Description

"Journal Entry: Scopic 8.74 That's what I get for opening my big mouth. Apparently Captain Brooks was less than impressed when he overheard my comments comparing his leadership abilities to those of an ape. And now here I am, leading a recon on this ice chunk known as Meren-11B. I get the feeling that in this case, "recon" is code for "your ass is busted" and Brooks is back at HQ feeling pretty proud of himself. Dr. Harris has been keeping a close eye on all the equipment readings, the last thing we need is any kind of breakdown out here. I've heard that without heatgear, a human would freeze to death in about 30 seconds. So now we're making our way through this frozen hell, gathering data on a supposedly indigenous animal species, although how anything could survive in this hostile environment is beyond me. We know very little about the creature we're looking for, other than it being large and rather unpleasant. Lucky me." --[{}]-- The real story: My wife was coming home one night in a nasty blizzard and made it almost all the way home, but got the Jeep stuck in some snowdrifts that had blown across the road near our house. As we headed out with shovels to dig it out, the headlights in the blowing snow looked surreal. I decided to do an image based on that scene. Later, I had dropped my son off for a Boy Scouts camp and they had used snowmobiles to get the equipment back to the campground, so I took pictures of snowmobile details and worked those in too. Enjoy! Created with Cinema 4D and Photoshop.

A nice piece of work. If you modeled it all yourself really great work, if not its still cool. I am digging the snow. SO real and so violent.

I am 'blown away' (sorry about the pun) by several aspects in this wonderful piece. Firstly, I am impressed by the original and detailed modelling and composition, and secondly by the truly realistic snow-storm effect. Yet I am mostly ASTOUNDED by the lack of comments on this unique and professional painting. Why is it that there are HORDES of cretinous comments on hideous Poser pics but next to nothing on a stupendously skilful work such as this. All I can say is bring on the end of consumer-based everyone's-a-winner computer-art modernism! Huw Carr May 2009
