Description
During WWII Allied interceptors would sometimes catch inbound V-1 buzz bombs (also called doodle bugs) over the Channel and, instead of shooting them down, would fly alongside and slip a wing underneath the wing of the V-1 and flip it up. This caused the buzz bomb to lose control and crash. Here you see an example of this activity.
The V-1 is from neiwil's set of V weapons.
Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I appreciate it.

Render looks great! Interesting tidbit. Recently saw something along the same lines on a rerun of JAG where they used a similar method to disable the autopilot and wake the sleeping pilot (bad air supply and too high attitude). The stressed the wings did not touch but just got close enough that the wind current off the interceptor wing underneath the wing of the other craft is what did the trick, and (at least in that episode) it was bad news for both if the wings actually touched. Don't know how much of all that is true to life (just cause you see it on TV don't make it so) but thought I'd pass it along. Maybe you know. :O)

Awesomeness! Love it!

Great scene, excellent done....like it very much.

Nice render and Mustang markings, just a couple of points though, the V1 looks to big compared to the P51, I would say it should be half the size shown. Also I have'nt heard of a P51 catching a doodlebug, but that's not to say they did'nt, normally it was Tempests Spits and Meteors.

Love the plane model!

Well I didn't know that! Thanks for the knowledge, it must have taken more skill to do that than shoot them down. This is a great image which captures the topic perfectly. It would have been better with Brit spitfires tho eh? You gotta love spits - the only good thing that ever came out of Southampton ;)

cool scene.. the Mustang doesn't seem very accurate though. It parts look kind of out of proportion.

A great scene that's very well set up. Just one bit of advice though, scale down the V1 is it's a tad too big.
neiwil
Well cool image, great pose and lighting..(on the scale issue, I'll take part of the blame, and am about to post an answer.) Great work my friend, and thanks for using my Doodlebug.

I'd never heard of that aviation story. Thats amazing, to think that the pilots would even consider doing that. The margin for error must have been pretty small. Great looking picture!

A nicely produced image and very interesting info!

Fabulous re-enactment of this wartime feat. I seen a documentary which had the original pilot who first tried this tactic. The chaps from his squadren called him "Tip em up Terry. Nice work once again shamster!

Really cool image. Scale (everybody knows about. So nothing to add. One other thing. According to official records , due to lack of speed at low levels, Mustangs caught very few V1's.The only planes with the REAL speed to catch them were Tempests and Griffon Spitfires. Mustangs on the other hand DID take out a lot of the sites in France!) But who cares. It's play time! Great render. Rob.
