Sacre Bleu! How reactionary and unprogressive of the French not to scrap their infrastructure every couple of generations. They are almost as bad as the Spanish, Italians, Russians, Chinese--you name it. No wonder the Americans rule the world! Cutting edge, yessirree! There are stone "bridges" in Africa deliberately designed not to wash out in heavy rain. Saves a lot of work, and is only mildly inconvenient. The typical American takes a look at it, decides the primitive "natives" can't even build a bridge right, and decides to send in the missionaries as a preliminary to turning the place into Hawaii.
