Description

This is a repost for duncanooo, he was there. I was one of the three guys on the bridge and had all intentions to take a picture of the approaching aircraft, a KC-135E. But as it came toward us at about 300 mph and fully accelarating, the jet intake noise of the four engines was loud. I did the thing that came naturally, I held my ears and ducked. I found out later from the co-pilot that they were flying about 90-ft. above the waterlevel. The bridge connecting Beale with Wake Island is about 12-ft. above the water, my eye level is 5.5-ft. above ground level. That makes the aircrat about 72-73-ft. above my eye level. So ducking was the prudent thing to do. The flight was intended as a morale booster, and it achieved that - easily. This picture was taken in March 1990 and later scanned. Thank you for viewing and commenting, and thanks for any favs,Sig...

WOW! This is as good a pic as the departure post. And you were on Wake Island, too. Very historic! (And who wouldn't have ducked under the circumstances?)

My ears have never been the same while being on the bridge, it was the last flight for one of our excellent pilots before retirement. The KC 135 low fly over was one of my wonderful memories of the times and people that I was able to share with for over 35 years with the 161st ARW, what a special part-time career, wow! This you can say was a very special picture, I am honored to call the guy that made this a personal friend for over 35 years, with its ups and downs, just how life is expected to be.
