------------- Tales of the Silver Gryphon - Soth's Chambers
Once the thurmaturgic circle was activated, Savra stepped through the now glowing column of magius. There was no other choice. They'd run out of places to look and they were no closer to unlocking the secrets of Soth el'Mar than they had been hundreds of miles away in Kandevari, or thousands of miles away, back in Syvasgaard thumbing through Lady MacDaer's journals.
They had learned a few things though. Vorhing had not been the all powerful Necromancer of legend before he met Soth. He had been powerful, yes, but Savra had been able to overcome many of his traps and unravel his thurmaturgy. This particular condor had been built before Vorhing had perfected many of his materials and construction techniques. It was also likely he'd learned those things from Soth. And the male Drow here had risen up against their priestesses at the behest of Lady MacDaer. Thus the source of their undead curse. A curse placed upon them by Lolth, no doubt, before She was destroyed. But the identity of Soth, who and what he was, and what magical and technical knowledge he possessed, was still a mystery.
No longer. As she stepped out of the other side of the thurmaturgic teleporter, she saw the main hall of the chambers of Soth. This man was no wizard, at least not in the conventional sense. The stories of him being the first Paratech were easily confirmed. The chamber was made of a strange kind of concrete block which Meriadne called cinderblock. Apparently it was common in off-world construction, mostly on mid-level technologically advanced planets. The metals were mostly Cupritite, with some copper piping running here and there, and twelve foot tall corroded steel doors in four locations. Two of the normal double doors at the far end were an odd kind of metal, possibly an inferior version of Drow adamant, and the third appeared to be made of fine polished walnut. Before each of the four large doors was a statue of an elven warrior holding a sword. Each was made of deep purple Drow adamant, polished, untarnished, and unscratched. From their stance, and the dull purple glow in their eye sockets, they were likely golems, guardians to prevent anyone from passing into the vaults behind them. If they were to find Soth's treasures, that would be the place to start.
