Translucence is translucence--in light or shadow. Pitch black? Who knows--according to a rather narrow definition of "visible light", eh? The Russians supposedly discovered a person, closely investigated, who could "see" with fingertips. Why not? Without knowing it, most people breathe not only with lungs but with skin. In the pink of condition at least with open pores exposed to the air.
