Description

New ship I'm designing in DOGA-L3. I'll probably texture it both in DOGA and in either Cararra or Bryce for use in Daz Studio. I want to do interiors as well. I still need to do a lot of detailing. The upper main hull will have a gun turret, probably a dish, and a bit of greebling and armor plating. There will also be a bit more on the command module, and a pair of cheek guns. She's meant to look fast, but be large enough for a crew of about six to ten. She's also kind of supposed to be a mobile home in space, so there will be more windows and running lights than my usual ships (I'm not a big fan of a thousand windows on a ship, it's not very practical, esp. on warships...it ruins hull integrity and actually, artificial lighting on the inside set to the right colors and levels would do more psychologically for alleviating clausterphobia than windows...and I'm not sure why sci-fi ships tend to be so lit up. My military ships often have no running lights at all). This primarily came out of my girl asking me to design a ship for her. The class name comes from her middle name. Lemme get some feedback, esp. from you other ship modelers. I'm still debating the texturing job. I might do multiple versions of her, new and used.

Nice looking ship. I like the idea of having multiple textures: both new and used. Too many images have their equipment looking like it just came out of the factory. For a "mobile home in space" I'd suggest a large transparent oval shaped bubble on the top of the main hull. No, it doesn't serve a real purpose, but it's what comes to mind when I think of the old-style mobile homes. Maybe it can replace the main hull gun-turret for the civilian model. :)

It looks very good so far. However, I always wince at wings added to spaceships. I assume that this one can enter atmospheres and land on the surface, but it would need something more to the front. Of course, who says you have to go for realism! Grin.

Wings are useful on spacecraft that frequently do atmo work, like a small transport. They need not be toward the front because the goal isn't to achieve lift. Most spacecraft would have VTOL capabilities. They are primarily for maneuvering in thick atmosphere. With advanced composites and manufacturing techniques that would likely be in use, this allows the wings to be smaller and lighter. Since they'll be assisted by manuevering jets, the surface area of the wings themselves need not be very large. They're just braces for the surfaces used to alter the airflow around the craft to perform sudden maneuvers. (took three years of airframe mechanics)
