Very nice bokeh blur, but I have to be honest; this shot and your last are both over-exposed and the flash has destroyed the colour--this is a result of using the camera in auto mode--it is an SLR and such a waste to use it in auto mode-particularly with the flash firing. Take a moment to go through your camera settings and you should see an option called 'Histogram' when you look at your shots in the histogram, the best exposures are when the levels are peaking in the middle (on average)- not to the left or right. I am guessing if you looked at this histogram in this image you would see most of the levels peaking toward the right. You could have taken this same shot without a flash using natural light, a lower (more open) aperature setting and slower shutter speed- but still fast enough for hand held. Auto mode defeats the purpose of owning an SLR camera- its great for the beginning, but without experimenting and learning how to control the camera its never going to produce results that you truly want. Unfortunately, honesty in comments is not a trait that Renderosity inspires, as most people just comment to get comments back, so I hope you understand that I am offering critique in the true spirit of comraderie and artistic critique, whereas the rest of the robots on here just say "Great", "Wonderful" and all that crap--they aren't doing you any favors- they are just regurgitating generic statements without any genuine interest in seeing your work. Personally I have seen many of your photographs that show a lot of potential; and I dont mean to come off like I am some expert photographer-- just offering some advice where I can because I believe you have a lot of talent and obviously love photography.

It's hard to comment after mr "idehaven" has said it so well. This shot could be an exceptional one with a couple of tweaks. I do understand about setting the camera to auto at times when you want a shot in a hurry and don't know if you will get more then one chance at it. I've done this on occasion myself (especially if the camera is newer to you and you haven't had time to figure out all the fine details). If you are going to use a flash, be sure to set the red eye reduction to "on", the purple eyes only make for an un-natural look. You can also soften the flash by draping a kleenex or light white piece of cloth over the flash unit. I for one have a very hard time getting bird shots, so I always admire shots like these, that are so close and clear. So keep at it!!!!
