An operational test for you. A very good example for us. I'm not sure how you did it, but the DOF looks deeper on the left than on the right. One way or the other this shows what f/4.0 can do.

f/4 seems to be about the sharpest aperture on my 50mm, and it does give a pleasing balance to the depth of field for shots (like this) other than landscapes.. nicely done

)
