Description
This little stream is called Gos Brook but hardly anyone knows that these days. There is even a road named after it that runs parallel with it - Gosbrook Road - though it is unlikely any of the residents would be aware of its existence.
These days, it is mostly thought of as a surface water drainage ditch but it is, however, a spring fed, one hundred percent genuine water course in its own right.
This old culvert once carried the brook under the old Caversham cork mill but that was demolished some years ago and a housing estate built on the site.
The other end of the culvert flows into the downstream part of the mill stream just a few yards from the confluence with the Thames.
The little brick footbridge has fascinated me since childhood - it has always looked so forlorn. A forgotten stream flowing through a forgotten tunnel.

I love the structure of the bridge; but I don't like when natural watercourses are corralled into drainage pipes, way too much of that in Southern California where I grew up! Excellent capture!
