THANK YOU FOR IDENTIFYING THIS BIRD FOR ME. I SUPPOSE MY SISTER WILL STILL CALL IT A MARSH HEN THOUGH. FROM THE FRONT IT BLENDS IN WITH THE REEDS IT LIVES AMONG.

This is a Bittern of which there are around 14 species so not sure where you captured it but looks like the American Bittern Botaurus lentiginosus. Very good shot of this secretive bird.

You have beeen so lucky to see this and capture it. They are very shy and never seen in the open usually! Most people only know they are there from their calling, the Bittern boom as it is known.
