Description

I frowned at the diagrams on the display. Beside me Mimi mmurrupped inquiringly. My univited passenger was zipped up snug in the medpod and the med program was guardedly optimistic. But we'd both die if I couldn't figure out how to get us to our destination with with the entirely inadequate amount of fuel we had. I cursed Imperial Wolves in general. I'd already spent a futile hour trying to figure out a way to overide the command the other wolf had given my ship. I wasn't even sure that if the wolf I had on board survived his injuries and woke up that HE could overide the command. So we had to go to that damn spot of empty space or die trying. "It can't be done," I told Mimi. "At least not by conventual means. We don't have nearly enough fuel." She tilted her head and meowed. "Okay, okay so we try unconventional means." I grimaced. I already done it once. I'd been extremely lucky and extremely desperate. But that had been a different ship. I wasn't sure I could use the same method with the Wanderlust. The principles and equations underlying a savvik mis-jump were entirely theorectical. There were some physicists who still claimed they were impossible. But I had done it once before. And I knew of a handful of other people who had. Of course, there was no way of knowing how many people had tried it and failed. The Wanderlust had newer, more powerful engines than my old ship. Which actually made the calculations a lot more difficult. Starships routine took advantage of oddities of quantum temporal-spacial physics but they did so by brute force. To work at all a savvik mis-jump required delicacy and percision. I ran fingers through my hair in frustration. Well sitting here whinging was going to get the equations calculated. I'd better get to work... ************************************************** Thanks to: RDNA, Sharkey, Jim Burton, Wyrmmaster, Capsces, Lyrra and Lalverson This is part of a joint story being done by myself and Lalverson.
