Description

I call them beetles. Because they are so many here.If one km from my house to west is beach one km to east is backwaters. Thats how Alleppey got its name which means full of waters ( In our language(Malayalam)its Alappuzha. It was a difficult word for English men so they named it Alleppey). It is again divided by a number of canals cris crossing the town which was once connect to the Pier( see previous shots. Thus it earned a nick name 'Venice of the East'. A spurt in tourism has caused our water bodies to infest with these big beetles. But its exotic, luxurious and a uniqe experiance. There are about 700 of them in these waters. But my focus here won't be these beetles ( you can learn it more from google.check ' Back waters of Alleppey'. But on the life behind the scenes. Thank you dear friends, Hope you like this.

How beautiful! They remind me of the reed houses in southern Iraq that I have always thought very beautiful since I first saw them in a National Geographic magazine. I found a site that said Alappuzha. To my English speaking ears it almost sounded like A-la-pu-LA, but was not really an L sound on the last syllable, but very close. I like finding out how place names are pronounced. Excellent capture! I love the beetle against the trees and the long reflections in the water!
