Description
We spent Saturday (3/28) at the Hollow. We did a "walk-about", and took a few pictures. Everything is still quite dormant on the surface of it, but you can see little bits of stuff here and there. The first on the top left is a day lily pushing a tender green nose up from last years leaves. The second is the first blossom at the Hollow, down near the creek where it's dampish. I've no idea what it's called, I hope someone knows it's name. On the bottom left is a shot of some moss sending out fresh growth, and the bottom right is .. yup, you guessed it, a bug. Again, no idea what it is, but I thought it was cute with it's rather punk hairstyle and fuzzy face. Anyone know what it's name is?
Found some very small branches of fir tree on the ground, and put them in a little plastic vase I have on Gracie Anne's grave. Cleaned up some of winter's debris and thought about what kind of ground cover I want to plant on there. I was thinking maybe a varigated thyme. It would grow close to the ground and wouldn't need much in the way of maintainace and it would smell so nice.
We opened up the camper, did lots of cleanup outside, and for now, we'll just spend the day whenever weather permits, and in a few short weeks,we can get down to some serious camping!
You guys had me giggling at your comments on "Vermin Patrol"! Some of you inquired if they could be hired or rented .. yes, they can. They do swift work of home basements. Castles and palaces take a little longer. Rates are reasonable too, you pay transportation to and from the job, they get to keep anything they catch. That's it. Simple contract, no complications.
Many thanks for the faves on that little bit of sillines!

A beautiful collage of the first signs of spring. The bug looks as if he has been snowed in for the winter and is just melting with the spring sunshine. The variegated thyme would be lovely for Gracie Anne, she would have loved to roll in it.

It must be so peaceful, even with no foliage or animal sounds. The fresh air, the crispness of it, makes you feel alive when you take a deep breath. I'm amazed at the bits of life you found thriving. I think Gracie Anne is looking over your shoulder saying 'sniff there, sniff here, look up that tree, turn that rock over'. She'll be with you always.

Thanks to Andrea (durleybeachbum) for the the bugguide.net site, I was able to identify the little bug, it is a bee, a male, and it's name is Lasioglossum. Found in Cattauragus County, NY.
